Cooler temperatures and the return of pumpkin spice anything means we are just weeks away from celebrating Halloween on Downing Street. Friday, October 27th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm the City of Hollister and Downing Street Merchants will welcome ghosts and goblins for our annual Trunk-or-Treat on Downing Street. If you are interested in joining the fun and participating as a ‘”trunk,” contact Jeramie Brannon, jbrannon@hollistermo.gov, for more information or to reserve your space.

On Friday, November 3rd, the City of Hollister will kick off the Christmas season with our annual Downing Street Christmas Tree Lighting Event. Beginning at 6:00pm, join the Elected Officials and Park Board in welcoming Santa to Hollister, and with his help, light our Downing Street Christmas Tree. Join carolers from the Hollister Schools and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate while Santa Claus tells a story before assisting the Mayor in lighting the tree. Be sure to save the date and plan to attend on November 3rd.

The City of Hollister’s Building Department is excited to announce the release of our Online Building Permit Platform. Customers will have the option to complete their Commercial or Residential Building Permit Application or their Sign Permit Application online. Additional applications are available on the website to download with the ability to submit by email. Check out the new portal at https://tinyurl.com/2p8kr86f . Owners, Tenants, and Contractors will also be able to schedule inspections on the calendar at a time which is convenient for them, or they may still call to schedule an inspection with our team. If you prefer to come to the Building Department for one-on-one assistance, we are still available to serve you. Registration continues for the 2023 Color Me Grape 5K. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Hollister and the Hollister Area Chamber of Commerce, kick off their annual Grape & Fall Festival with a fun run. All proceeds from the Color Me Grape 5K will go to support Together Forever, a Skyler Sanders Family Foundation. One of the memories many of us have from Christmas is driving around to see the light displays. With Christmas carols on the radio, the anticipation of which home would be the best decorated or visiting a local park to walk through the winter wonderland, light displays are a part of the Christmas traditions for many families. Hollister is a destination for viewing lights, whether part of the Branson Scenic Railway’s Polar Express, or an evening stroll after dinner; our joy for Christmas is shared through our decorations.
We are currently seeking donors to help us keep the lighting tradition strong in Hollister. Festival season on Downing Street officially kicks off 2023 tomorrow, September 16th, when State of the Ozarks returns for their annual celebration. From 10:00am to 6:00pm, State of the Ozarks will bring our community together in a heightened street fair filled to the brim with food, art, craftsmanship, and fun, all tied to the history and culture of our land.
