City Parks

The Parks Department is responsible for construction, repairs, maintenance and landscaping of nine (9) area park sites:

Cedar Steps Park
The Cedar Steps are located on BB Highway at the East end of St. James Street bridge.  The steps were constructed in 1936 and have 229 steps, 33 landings with beautiful views and landscaping.  The steps are called the Cedar Steps due to the fact that BB Highway was formerly named Cedar.

Chad A Fuqua Memorial Park Hollister
Chad A. Fuqua Memorial Park is located on the North side of Hollister City Hall.  The park has a walking trail approximately 6/10 of a mile.  Along the trail are resting benches, vintage light poles and a covered stage with sound.  There are commemorative and memorial bricks lining the trail to honor those we love and special events in our lives.  For information on how to order your brick please call 417-337-8315.

Connell Park HollisterLocated on Business 65 in downtown Hollister, the newest of greenspaces to the Park’s Department is Connell Park.  Featuring picnic areas along Turkey Creek, Connell Park was donated to the City of Hollister by Pat and Patricia Connell, long time business owners and friends of the City.  Long-term plans for this area include the construction of a gazebo and additional seating areas for residents and tourists to enjoy the Park.

Downing View Park Hollister
Downing View Park is located on Esplanade Street overlooking Historic Downing Street.  The park has a covered pavilion and a playground for small children.

Hackett Falls Hollister

Hackett Falls Trail is just off the walking trail at the Chad A. Fuqua Memorial Park.  It has an asphalt walking trail and benches that overlook a water fall.  Future projects include landscaping and constructing a bridge over the water fall.

Hulland Park HollisterLocated off Railroad Avenue on Hulland Drive, Hulland Park offers scenic views of Lake Taneycomo and Turkey Creek. Picnic tables and park benches make the perfect location for lunch or to recharge from a busy day at work.  A recent addition to the park is a kayak and canoe ramp located along Turkey Creek.  This area also provides additional shoreline for fishing.  The next phase of growth for Hulland Park has started, with the Capital Campaign for a pavilion located on the point of Lake Taneycomo and Turkey Creek.

Pepper Dog Park is located on the corner of Laurel and Evergreen Streets.  It has a 6 foot, 150'x300' chain link fence with a divider down the middle to separate big dogs from little dogs.  Each pen has a fire hydrant for the dogs to use and water for the dogs to drink.  Pepper Dog Park is located adjacent to Tiger Park and parking is available.
